The real fun of competition is found in Dimensional Portals. These PvPvE battlegrounds are enough excitement to keep things interesting. They also happen to be an excellent way to Elyon Gold collect equipment and other items to help fuel the gear grind.
The only downside to these types of portals is their limited nature. Daily Portals can only be accessed for one hour per day. Weekly portals, which are where the majority of my PvP encounters have happened so far, are limited to 10 hours each week, accessible in one-hour blocks with specific times each day. This directing of players into scheduled time frames helps to push everyone into the same zone all at once.
One of the players' biggest issues when the Eastern MMO makes its way to the West is how the cash shop's impact will affect play. Though the high-quality of free-to-play games suggests otherwise, Western players say they be averse to pay to win items. Because of this, much of the conversation prior to the release of Elyon centered around the cash shop.
Krafton along with Kakao Games promised to adjust the cash-shop offerings to address the concerns of customers, and they have honored the promise. Even the special VIP account's 10%XP bonus along with the daily Luminus energy recharge, and other benefits provide only a small amount of benefit. Even though many games attempt to justify their cash shop features with the 'you can have it all just by playing the game' argument The benefits you can enjoy from Elyon's cash shop truly can be obtained by using the in-game currency.
One residual effect of the cash shop's changes is that Elyon was developed specifically with the purchase of cash in the back of its mind. Once you work through the initial story quests every avenue of progress within Elyon are blocked aggressively with the restriction of access or by a powerful random number generator.
You are only allotted 20 quest words to make use of on repeatable quests each day. Dungeon rewards are limited to four per day. Time that is spent on Dimensional Portals is restricted to one hour per day and ten hours for weekly portals. Transcendent Dungeons are only available once per week. PvP rewards are limited to once per day. The list of restrictions continues. It's not difficult to conjure up cash shop products that will quickly eliminate the restrictions.
This is also true for upgrading gear. I'm always short of rune cheap Elyon Gold powder. I'm always hesitant to add another feature to an item of breakthrough gear. And I would give my left arm for a 100% success when aiming for the ever-elusive goal of rolling for a +10 enhancement. Imagine the amount of money that could be earned to reduce your chances of crafting errors.
